Materials List, Reference Photo & Pencil Sketch

I encourage you to just use what you have at hand, it is completely okay if you don't have the exact colors or brushes as I do. Just have a go at painting and have fun! You can upgrade your tools later.

Paper:

  • Watercolor Paper (I use Baohong Cold Pressed 300gsm)

Paint colors:

  • Opera (Fuchsia pink)
  • Quinacridone Scarlet (Red)
  • Quinacridone Gold (Yellow)
  • Cobalt Green (Green)
  • Burnt Umber (Brown)
  • Ultramarine Deep (Dark Blue)
  • Optional for highlights: Lavender (Lavender), Jaune Brilliant (Cream)

Brushes:

  • Big flat brush (For background wash)
  • Smaller flat/round brush (for details)
  • Stiff brush (Like an acrylic brush with denser bristles, we will use to 'lift' up paint)
  • Old brush or cheap brush (for masking fluid, you can also use Q-tip, or something disposable)

Other tools:

  • Magic Sponge (Melamine cleaning sponge, we will use this to 'lift' up paint)
  • Masking fluid (You can also use wax as an alternative)
  • Acrylic Board/Plastic Board (We will stretch our paper on this, but you can skip it if you don't have one, and simply tape your paper onto a board)

Basics:

  • Pencil, Eraser
  • Water
  • Mixing Palette
  • Towel

Pencil Sketch (with masking fluid applied)
